Business with Purpose Publishing ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect at bwpexpert.org, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Business with Purpose Publishing is a fiscally sponsored charitable project of BridgesUS. Charitable donations are received and administered by BridgesUS.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us.
When you contact us, enquire about publishing, purchase a package, nominate an author, donate, or sign up for anything on this site, we collect the details you provide. Depending on what you are doing, that may include your name, email address, phone number, business information, and anything you choose to tell us about yourself or your work.
Author materials.
If you become a BWP author, we collect the material needed to produce and publish your book, including your biography, author photograph, book content, and website or social media links.
Information collected automatically.
Like most websites, we automatically collect basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.
We do not store payment card details.
Payments and donations are handled by third-party payment processors. Your card information goes directly to them, not to us.
2. How we use it
We use your information to:
- respond to your enquiries and communicate with you;
- provide publishing services and produce your book;
- process payments and keep financial records;
- publish and promote books and authors;
- operate the Author Portal, author community, and program benefits;
- send you program news, workshop invitations, and other marketing emails, which you can stop at any time;
- maintain and improve this website;
- meet our legal obligations.
3. Published information is public
If you become a published author with us, please understand that your name, biography, photograph, book content, and any contact details you ask us to include become publicly available. They appear in printed books, ebook editions, retail listings such as Amazon, on this website, and in promotional material.
Printed and distributed books cannot be recalled. Once a book is published and sold, we cannot remove or change what is already in the world. Please think carefully about what personal information you include in your book and author listing.
4. Nominating someone else
Our nomination form asks for another person's contact details. If you nominate someone, please make sure you have their permission first. We use that information only to consider the nomination and, where appropriate, to contact the person about the opportunity. If you were nominated and would rather we did not keep your details, email us and we will delete them.
5. Who we share it with
We share information with the service providers who help us operate, including website hosting, email delivery, payment processing, printing and distribution partners, editors, designers, and professional advisers. We share information with book retailers such as Amazon as needed to publish and sell books, and with BridgesUS in relation to donations and sponsorships. Where a program involves a shared community or a collaborative book, other participants will see what you share in that setting.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights and safety.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade mailing lists.
6. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site, remember preferences, keep the Author Portal secure, and understand how visitors use our pages. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings, though parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
7. Marketing emails
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing us. We will still send you essential messages about an active publishing project, payment, or legal matter, as those are part of the service.
8. How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as we need it, and afterwards where business or legal reasons require. Publishing and author records are kept long-term, because a published book creates a permanent record. Financial records are kept for as long as the law requires. Marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
9. Your choices
You can ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, correct anything wrong, delete information we no longer need, or stop sending you marketing email. Email publishing@businesswithpurpose.org and we will respond within a reasonable time.
We cannot delete information that has already been published in a book, or records we are required to keep for legal or tax reasons.
10. Children
This site and our programs are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, please email us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information and use established providers for payments, hosting, and email. No website is completely secure, so please do not email us sensitive information such as card numbers or identification documents.
12. Links to other sites
Our site links to author websites, retailers, donation platforms, and other third parties. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies before giving them your information.
13. Visitors outside the United States
We operate in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. By using this site, you understand that your information will be handled under US law.
14. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows when it last changed.
